HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - New developments in the Sunday night murder investigation of a 22- year old Southern Miss student.
Early Monday
Gipson is charged with the murder of his girlfriend Brittany Morgan of Waynesboro at the Town Villa Apartments in Hattiesburg.
Lamar County Coroner Andy Geske said, Morgan was beaten and stabbed multiple times. Requests to the Hattiesburg Police Department for an update on the investigation were denied.  H.P.D. was unavailable for interviews, citing the Presidents Day holiday.
Other law enforcement agencies, such as the U.S. Marshal's service were willing to talk and said, they spotted Gipson at around 3am outside of the casino. Justin Vickers, with the U.S. Marshal's service said, as they approached him, he pulled out a gun and pointed it to his head, eventually he surrendered.
Vickers said, "when our officers went to arrest the suspect, he immediately pulled a gun and placed it to his head and held us at bay for approximately 30 minutes until he relinquished the weapon and was arrested without further incident."
The Hattiesburg Police Department did say, Gipson was returned to Hattiesburg and charged with murder but the department unable to release any other details.
