Two members of a Korean casino cheating syndicate have been charged with defrauding the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut of up to $1 million. In the
The two Koreans, named Gy Young Su, 60 and Wookyung Kim, 34 are believed to have played just a small part in a casino cheating gang which has domestic and worldwide dimensions.
During Wednesday’s court appearance in a New London courtroom, the two Koreans used interpreters in order to follow the court proceedings. They had previously been arrested at the Foxwoods Resort for using electronic devices to cheat at the casino and now face a whole list of conspiracy and stealing charges.
Gy Young Su is accused of being the organiser of the group and cheating Foxwoods alone of $447,000, while Kim is believed to have stolen more than $83,000.
They were arrested after the Foxwoods Resort Casino conducted a three-month long cheating investigation in conjunction with the state police casino unit, the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the New Jersey state police casino unit.
The other two Koreans have been named as Ingyu Park, 55, and Sun Jang, 63, both of whom are accused of cheating at the mini-baccarat tables at Atlantic City’s Bally’s Hotel.
The latest arrests would seem to confirm the fact that Korean criminals are becoming much more prevalent in both online and bricks and mortar casinos. Just a few months ago, for instance, a ring of Korean online poker cheaters were arrested in South Korea for hacking the source codes of various online poker rooms.
If found guilty, the latest casino arrests to hit the US could spell lengthy jail sentences for the Korean gang.
Meanwhile in related news, two Italian roulette cheats were arrested in the UK for being part of a casino cheating ring.
According to professional casino cheater turned industry expert Richard Marcus:
“After Americans, Italians make up the largest population of organized casino cheats in the world.”
Frank Camilleri, 61, and Francesco Baioni, 64 admitted to a whole host of crimes spanning 20 years, including roulette pastposting or placing bets on a roulette table after time.
However, due to more lenient UK laws dealing with casino cheats, the pair were let off with 12-month suspended jail sentences.
