JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Casino revenues were flat in Mississippi in April, as gambling halls along the Mississippi River won more from bettors, while those along the Gulf Coast won less.
Figures released this month show gamblers lost $183 million in April, almost exactly level with the same month in 2018.
That includes $2.1 million in sports betting revenue at casinos.
The 15 river casinos saw revenue rise 4.3% from April 2018 to $78 million. That's the eighth increase in nine months for the region, which has been weak for years. A Tunica County casino closed in January.
The 12 coastal casinos saw April revenue fall 3% percent to $105 million. It's only the second time in 10 months revenue has fallen there.
Numbers exclude Choctaw Indian casinos, which don't report to the state.
