A tribe that’s buying the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem in Pennsylvania has donated $180,000 to pay for all 23 Alabama tornado victims’ funerals, according to Alabama Media Group. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians wanted to assist with funeral costs, and the Lee County, Alabama coroner reached out after hearing about members’ interest in donating, per the news site. The tribe initially committed $50,000 but subsequently called the coroner back, asking how much it would cost to cover all costs. After giving tribe a figure, “they graciously made it happen,” Lee County Coroner Bill Harris reportedly said. Among the victims are four children, a seven-member family, as well as couple who “reconnected after a hurricane.” The Poarch Band, which is based in Alabama, runs nine casinos and is paying $1.3 billion for the Bethlehem property, which will be its 10th.
