Between the Lines: GE lighting pitch, Huron Trauma Center, early casino snags - WKYC-TV

E-mail Print PDF

CLEVELAND -- Mayor Frank Jackson thought he had a bright idea, hoping to link the city's LED lighting needs to a new factory with 350 jobs.

But Wednesday's bid deadline only brought bids from two of the 22 companies that expressed interest.

GE Lighting, of East Cleveland, is pitching hard to land the deal touting a 100-year presence and commitment to the

community.

How will this play out?

There was lots of noise and news when the Cleveland Clinic announced plans to close Huron Hospital's Level II Trauma Center.

After protests and a lawsuit, the Clinic has agreed to keep the center open for now. Things have quieted down.

The threat of renewed lawsuits are still there and Cleveland Heights was prepared to join Cleveland and East Cleveland in court.

What will happen next year?

And there are still lots of questions about a possible phase-one casino on Public Square. What are the reasons behind the delay? And what are the odds it will happen?

Tom Beres discusses these subjects with Channel 3 Political Analysts Mary Anne Sharkey and Dennis Eckart on this edition of Between the Lines.
