Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in Gary remains the state’s top earning casino in August, earning slightly more than it did in August 2021 as overall revenues in Northwest Indiana dropped from this year from last.
The three casinos in Northwest Indiana — Hard Rock Northern Indiana in Gary, Ameristar Casino in East Chicago, and Horseshoe Casino Hammond — brought in a combined $78.7 million in revenues in August, a 7% approximate decline from the $85 million reported in August 2021, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission’s monthly report.
Statewide figures are also down, though not as significantly as they are in the region. In August 2021 the total win for the state was $209.3 million. That figure dropped to $205.8 in August 2022, about a 1.6 percent decline, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Hard Rock reported revenues of $32.7 million in August, up a little more than 8% from the $30.2 million reported in August 2021 but down from the $36.8 million reported in July of this year, according to the report. Meanwhile Horseshoe Casino Hammond was the second top earner in the state reporting $29.3 million in revenues in August. Horseshoe’s earnings declined from $33.3 million in August 2021.
Northwest Indiana’s third casino Ameristar reported earnings of $16.7 million in August, down from $21.5 million the same month last year, according to the report.
Matt Schuffert, president of Hard Rock Northern Indiana, said they the casino’s revenues for the month were solid and they were certainly happy with the volume year-over-year performance, which saw in increase over 2021.
He said the casino is cautious about what the future holds but said having the venue as an entertainment destination as well continues to draw guests.
“We always keep an eye on economic conditions,” Schuffert said.
Hard Rock launched its online sports book Sept. 6 and will be watching to see how that progresses. The retail sports book opened in May.
“That’s a side of the business to certainly keep an eye on. We will see some growth in volumes there,” Schuffert said.
Ameristar Casino leads the pack in Northwest Indiana in sports book wagering with $73.3 million bet in August. Hard Rock saw $574,361 bet in August; Its online sports book was not operational in August. Meanwhile, Horseshoe Hammond reported $7.5 million in sports wagering in August, according to the IGC report.
