PHOENIX – Arizona-based casino operator Gila River has bet that a recently completed $143 million expansion will lure more visitors to Wild Horse Pass in Chandler.
The casino will host a weekend of grand-opening events celebrating the new 11-story Sunrise Tower hotel and luxury rooftop restaurant, Prime a Shula’s Steak House.
The restaurant is scheduled to open Saturday at 5 p.m.; the 205-guest room hotel tower opened Monday, joining the Sunset Tower.
Expansion to the 27-year-old complex near Interstate 10 and Loop 202 Santan Freeway also added two pools, including one for adults only; and a reinvigorated lobby and casino.
Change doesn’t stop there: the company is tweaking its name to Gila River Resorts & Casinos. Previously, the brand name was Gila River Hotels & Casinos.
“We are truly excited to introduce ourselves as Gila River Resorts & Casinos,” CEO Kenneth Manuel said in a press release last week.
He said guests can “expect an elevated experience” at all three Gila River properties. Besides Wild Horse, the group runs Lone Butte, also in Chandler, and Vee Quiva in the West Valley. Santan Mountain is expected to open in Chandler next year.
