What a truly crazy year.

Like many people, I had an idea of what I thought 2020 would look like and particularly what it would look like at the casinos. I imagined construction projects would go on as planned, new bars and restaurants would open, and gaming floors and entertainment venues would be as packed as ever.

By March, it became clear that outlook was wrong. The novel coronavirus pandemic changed things at casinos the same way it did everywhere else. Masks were essential, social distancing was the norm, buffets shuttered and entertainment venues went eerily silent. Long-term construction projects were also impacted.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has heavily impacted Las Vegas’ casinos, and by extension, their employees, who have faced layoffs, furloughs or had their hours cut to part time. Some of those employees are looking to get out of the hospitality industry and into trades. The Las Vegas Sun has more.
