A task force of United States marshals from New York found Mr. Rodriguez at the Microtel Inns and Suites on Route 32, according to the Connecticut State Police, who assumed custody of the prisoner. He was charged as a fugitive from justice based on an outstanding felony arrest warrant issued in New York for a parole violation, the police said. He was held in $50,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Norwich, Conn., later in the day.
Mr. Rodriguez was arrested initially Wednesday afternoon in Fort Lee, N.J., in connection with a shooting in the Bronx and parole violations. He was placed in the back of a squad car in cuffs and leg irons. While officers were searching his vehicle, he slipped into the front seat of the squad car, sped off and abandoned it five miles away, setting off a multistate manhunt.
