Chumash Casino outlines plans for reopening - KEYT

E-mail Print PDF

SANTA YNEZ, Calif. - The Chumash Casino is taking steps to prepare to reopen it doors, although it does not have a tentative date set to do so.

In a letter sent out to casino club members, CEO John Elliott said the casino was enacting a number of preventative measures for when it reopens.

Those measures include increased cleaning and sanitizing at common areas, especially slot machines and table games, kiosks, ATMs and gas pumps, as well as frequently touched surfaces like tables, countertops, elevators, handrails and door handles. Those cleaning procedures will also be carried over to the resort's hotel rooms.

The casino is also installing more hand sanitizer stations and signage with hand washing reminders and instructions in all bathrooms and washrooms.

All employees will also receive extensive training related to safety and sanitation.

Last month, Elliott announced in a similar letter that the casino would be using temperature scanning kiosks once it reopens.

Despite these new procedures and preventative measures, the casino does not have an exact date for an expected reopening. In Elliott's April letter, he stated that the casino would remain closed through May.

California is expected to move into Phase 2 of Governor Newsom's 4-phase reopening plan Friday. Phase 2 includes low-risk workplaces like retails spaces and non-essential manufacturing.

It's unclear exactly what part of the reopening phase would include businesses like casinos, or if Tribal casinos would be restricted to the same timeline of the state.

We reached out to the Chumash Casino regarding a possible reopening, but additional details were not made readily available at this time.
