In 2020, expect more growth and development at Southern California casinos. Expect lavish new hotels, more gaming space and additional restaurants. Some of the projects will be completed in the upcoming year while others will wrap in 2021. Here’s a full rundown on what’s changing as a new year arrives.

Agua Caliente Cathedral City

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will continue construction on its third gaming property in 2020, after breaking ground in early November.

The project, located on a nearly 14-acre space at the corner of East Palm Canyon (Highway 111) and Date Palm drives, will have a casino with 500 gaming devices and eight table games; bars, restaurants and shops; and tribal government space, according to a draft environmental impact report. The Agua Caliente Band is eyeing first quarter of 2021 for the project’s completion, a spokeswoman confirmed.

Cahuilla Casino Hotel

The new Cahuilla Casino Hotel in Anza will open its doors in 2020.

The $35.2 million dollar project includes a 14,000-square-foot gaming floor with 353 slot machines and four table games, a 58-room hotel, a 7,000-square-foot outdoor event space and a restaurant. It’s expected to add 50 jobs to an existing 120.

The new resort property will replace the original Cahuilla Casino, located next door. The older casino, which operated out of a tent-like structure over the past 23 years, will be shuttered and removed. Casino officials have not yet announced what they will do with the space.

Harrah’s Resort Southern California

The Valley Center resort will finish up the last changes to the tasting room for its its on-site brewery, rebranded as Rincon Reservation Road Brewery, and hold an official reopening in January 2020. The tasting room was revamped into a lounge-type space complete with a full bar, large screen televisions, projectors and new signage to go with the rebranding.

Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa

The Cabazon resort will wrap up its major expansion effort in mid-2020.

The expansion has involved adding 65,000 additional square feet of gaming space and 800 more slot machines to the gaming floor, switching out restaurant concepts on the casino level and adding a valet parking structure with space for 750 vehicles.

Much of the work on the casino level has been completed. The resort opened restaurants Good Times Cafe and Pink Coffee in May; Asian restaurant Mozen in late October and centrally-located casino bar Crystal Hearts last weekend.

Construction associated with the valet parking garage continues at the front of the casino.

Pala Casino, Spa & Resort

The San Diego County resort aims to finish the phased upgrade of its hotel rooms in March 2020. The upgrades include new paint, 49-inch TVs, Keurig coffee makers, charging and personal music stations on nightstands and upgraded mirrors with surround lighting in the bathrooms.

San Manuel Casino

Visitors to the Highland complex may have noticed that construction on its new hotel has gone vertical.

In 2020, the will continue work on its $550 million, multiphase expansion project that will culminate in the construction of the roughly 450-room hotel, a pool complex, spa, fitness center, 3,000 seat event center, restaurants and shops.

Peter Arceo, general manager for the casino, said in a recent interview that the casino was eyeing second quarter of 2021 for when all of those things would be completed.

The casino finished its new parking garage, one of the first projects in the expansion, in late November. The six-story garage has 2,200 parking spots, 30 car charging stations, four elevators and shuttle service to and from the casino entrance.

Spotlight 29 Casino

The Coachella casino will unveil a new dining concept in space formerly occupied by the now shuttered Pier 29 food court and full-service restaurant La Diabla Maria. More specific details about the new concept have not yet been announced by the casino.
