The Navajo Nation is set to build its first casino in Arizona on newly acquired trust land.

Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk announced this week that 405 acres of land east of Flagstaff was placed into trust for the

tribe.

The Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise purchased the land for $7.4 million earlier this year but needed the approval from the federal government before gaming could be conducted there.

Tribal officials expect to open the $120 million Twin Arrows Casino next spring. Plans call for a hotel, conference center, spa and golf course at the site.

The Navajo Nation has two casinos and a third in the works in New Mexico.
