Atlantic City revenues jump, but new casino bringing up the rear

Revenue was up at Atlantic City casinos on the heels of the opening of two new hotels, as the Hard Rock and Ocean Resort contributed to a 12 percent boost in gaming profits, though the average earnings per casino saw a decline. 

With the two new properties bringing the number of casinos to nine, a monthly report from the Division of Gaming Enforcement shows the total gaming revenue reached $302.1 million in July, bringing the average earnings to about $33 million per casino. 

Last July, the average earnings across seven casinos came to roughly $38 million. Most of the seven saw a decline in earnings last month as the gaming pool on the boardwalk added two properties to the mix.  

Golden Nugget was the only casino to improve total gaming revenue numbers in July, boosted by internet gaming. 

Borgata remained the highest-grossing property, with a boost from sports betting after becoming the first casino in Atlantic City to offer it. 

Although Ocean Resort joined the Hard Rock in contributing to the 800,000-plus visitors to the boardwalk during the two weeks following the June 28 openings, the former Revel property brought in the least amount of gaming revenue out of the nine casinos.
