Police have arrested two men they said targeted an Upper Arlington woman at the Hollywood Casino and followed her home to take her winnings.
Macellus Tolliver and William Knox Junior, both 23 are charged with aggravated robbery. They were arrested at a Columbus home Friday and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
Lt. Jon Wilhelm with Upper Arlington Police said a woman in her sixties was gaming at the casino for about six hours on February 12. When she went to cash out her winnings, she told police she did not notice a man watching her.
"She did successfully win some money . She cashed out at the end of the night around midnight and drove directly home," said Wilhelm. "It was at that point when she pulled in her driveway she was approached by these two unknown suspects and robbed."
Wilhelm said they reviewed casino surveillance footage to see if the woman was targeted.
"We noticed two male subjects that did appear to be paying very particular attention to her and it is our belief the two individuals in the casino committed this robbery," said Wilhelm.
"As the victim is being paid out at the cashiers window one of the suspects who was watching her receive this money is on a cell phone , we believe he was talking to the second suspect who was quickly exiting the casino to the parking lot," said Wilhelm. "There was no indication that our victim was aware that at any point she was being watched or being paid attention to by anyone in the casino."
"We identified the suspects by I D swipes at the casino when they went in that night and we matched the information off of those IDs with the surveillance images, as well as the license plate of the vehicle they were driving."
Police said the woman was shaken by the incident.
"She was approached on her property by two unknown people who displayed a handgun so the potential for real violence is there. I think she realizes that," said Wilhelm.
The officer said it is a good reminder for be aware of both people and cars that are around them."Especially at night try not to be alone, especially in dimly lit areas and if you are in a position where you are carrying large sums of money I think you should particularly pay attention to what is going on around you," said Wilhelm.
The Casino Control Commission said it has under-cover gaming agents at the facility 24-7. Hollywood Casino said it won't comment on case that is under investigation.
