Maryland's five casinos brought in more than $97 million in state revenue last month, rising year-over-year for the 10th month in a row, according to figures released Thursday by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.
Revenue at the casinos was up 11 percent from September 2015, marking the strongest year-over-year gains since April. Revenues dipped from the $100.3 million reported for August as the summer season cale to a close.
More activity at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore helped power the increase. The facility brought in $26.9 million, up 21.6 percent from September 2015, when revenue growth disappointed.
"We're very pleased with our September performance, having posted the largest percentage of year-over-year revenue growth of any casino in Maryland during the period," said Erin Chamberlin, Horseshoe Baltimore's general manager, in a statement.
Maryland Live Casino, which boasts the most slot machines and table gains in Maryland, maintained its slot as the top revenue maker, reporting $53.9 million in revenue, an increase of 8.8 percent from 2015.
Rocky Gap Casino Resort had the second highest growth rate among the five casinos, with revenue surging nearly 15 percent year-over-year to $4.4 million.
The Casino at Ocean Downs generated $5.9 million up about 3 percent from 2015.
Hollywood Casino Perryville, which opened as the state's first casino in 2010, was the only one that saw revenues decline. It generated $5.9 million, down 4.6 percent from September 2015. That marked the fifth month in a row of decreases for the Cecil County site.
The state's newest casino, MGM National Harbor, is scheduled to open Dec. 8.
The state's portion of casino revenues goes to education, small business programs, local impact grants and horse racing industry.
Together the five casinos have seen year-over-year revenue gains every month since November. They produced more than $100 million in four months this year, setting a record in May at $104.4 million.
