A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life after driving off the 5th floor of the parking garage at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
In a press release, Metro police identified the victim as Marcus Reif.
Reif Ford Expedition drove through a concrete wall and off the parking structure before landing upside down.
Police say he was unconscious when first responders arrived.
Reif was transported by ambulance to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, then airlifted by Flight for Life to UMC trauma in Las Vegas with life-threatening injuries.
A dog that was in the car died in the crash while one cat survived and another has gone missing.
Metro police say the 19-year-old man had dropped his mom off at the casino for lunch and was going to park the car when the crash occurred.
Onlookers like Warren Geim were horrified at the wreckage.
"It's crazy to see something like that for sure," Geim said.
Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said his fatal detail team is working to figure out what went wrong, but this isn't the first time they have investigated this type of crash.
"We've actually had collisions like this in Vegas where a vehicle has gone off the top of the parking garage where the accelerator may have gotten stuck ... or instead of pushing the break, they accidentally -- in a panicked moment -- accelerated over the top of the parking structures," Sgt. Strader said.
It's unclear whether alcohol or drugs are factors in this case.
