MERRILLVILLE | Some Horseshoe Casino Hammond employees gathered at the Meals on Wheels office recently to hand wash all 13 MOW delivery vehicles seen delivering meals throughout Northwest Indiana.
Each vehicle washed by volunteers saves Meals on Wheels more than $20 so other volunteers can reach clients Monday through Friday, all year long, with nutritious hot meals.
The employees were equipped with sponges, brushes, and cleaning supplies for the inside of the vehicles and brought out a ladder to help reach the roof of each van.
“Part of our company’s mission is to give back to the community and we are passionate about serving the elderly community and those who are less fortunate," said Dawn Reynolds Pettit, Regional VP Human Resources for Horseshoe Casino. "Volunteering is close to all our hearts. We believe helping our community one volunteer outreach event at a time, makes a difference. It’s what we do and who we are about.”
The Horseshoe volunteer group, known as HEROs, also deliver meals to the Whiting area once a month to show their support for MOW and the community.
“We are grateful to Horseshoe HEROs volunteers for their ongoing support for Meals on Wheels and delivering meals to our homebound in Whiting. This project is just one more way these generous people give back to our community,” said Sandy Noe, executive director of MOW
