Gambling revenue at Ohio’s four casinos totaled $63.5 million in June, a drop of 0.2 percent compared with a year ago and the lowest month so far this year for gambling revenue, the state Casino Control Commission said Tuesday.
Penn National Gaming Inc.’s Hollywood Casino Toledo, showed a significant increase for the month. Revenues in June were $16.6 million, a rise of 7.8 percent compared to the same month last year.
Revenues were up 3.2 percent at the state’s other Penn National site, Hollywood Casino Columbus.
At the state’s two Horseshoe-branded casinos, owned by Rock Ohio Caesars, revenue totals were mixed, the state said. In Cincinnati, casino revenues were up 5.4 percent in June, but in Cleveland revenues were down a hefty 15.5 percent for the month.
For June, Hollywood Casino Toledo was the highest grossing location with $16.6 million, the state said.
Historically, revenue has fallen in June compared with previous months in both 2013 and 2014, the only full years the state’s casinos have been operating year-round. However, the $63.5 million take for June represents the lowest month for casino revenues statewide since November when revenues totaled $62.8 million, state figures show.
The commission’s revenue report includes only what the casinos make on gaming. Revenue on sales of food, drinks, and other merchandise are not included in the totals. State law levies a 33 percent tax on gaming revenues, with that money divided among school districts, county governments, and some larger cities.
Through June this year, Ohio’s four casinos have collected total revenues of $409 million. That’s down 0.1 percent, or about $500,000, from the same period last year.
At Hollywood Casino Toledo, revenues totaled $97 million through June, up 5.6 percent from $91.9 million from the period a year ago.
