With its Truckee River backdrop and scenic views, the Siena Hotel Spa Casino was a popular place for weddings, luncheons, dinners and parties of all kinds. And when it closed its doors yesterday, dozens of events planned for this weekend and in the months ahead had nowhere else to go.
Elaine Brannon has held a luncheon to honor survivors of breast cancer for six years at the Siena, and had invited almost 300 people to this year's event; scheduled for Saturday.
Her phone rang yesterday afternoon.
"I never got a call from the Siena until later in the day," Brannon said. "My call came from the Atlantis, and they said we have your file, we have your set-up, you're good to go for Saturday."
Only then, less than 48 hours before an event that had been planned for a year, did Brannon learn that the Siena had reached out to people at the Atlantis hotel-casino, and asked them to host the event.
"The reason I worked with the Siena was their customer service." Brannon said. "And even now, in this traumatic time, they're still providing great customer service.
"Most events this big take months to plan, but these organizers know what they're doing, this isn't their first rodeo, and we're happy to help," said Atlantis Spokesman Ben McDonald.
Today, the Atlantis rolled out the red carpet, and prepared for the arrival of 300 guests tomorrow.
Brannon says despite the last-minute changes, she's happy with the way everything has turned out.
"I think I've found my new family for the survivors," Brannon said. "I'm looking forward to maybe being here next year."
The Atlantis is also offering a free service that was offered by the Siena; anyone who is a breast cancer survivor, or is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, can call for a free 30 minute massage, facial, manicure or pedicure at the Atlantis Spa on Sunday, October 24. Call 954-4135 to make an appointment.
