Baltimore's Horseshoe Casino announced Friday that five local favorites will be the restaurants patrons can check out when the property opens.
The Baltimore Marketplace, which will be on the first floor of the casino, will consist of Heavy Seas, the Mallow Bar, Tark’s at the ‘Shoe, Lenny’s Deli and Pie-Zetta.
"We’re pleased to bring several of the area’s most popular restaurateurs together to create the Baltimore Marketplace, a collection of great casual dining venues," said Robert Viox, the vice president of the casino's food and beverage services. "Our Baltimore Marketplace concept will feature a full range of flavors and fare."
Heavy Seas was founded by prominent local brewer Hugh Sisson. The casino's location will offer several well-balanced and interesting beers, as well as casual fare, from burgers to mussels to ham hush puppies. Sisson is an acknowledged expert in the art of food and beer pairings and will bring that passion to Horseshoe Baltimore.
The Mallow Bar, founded by Baltimore Farmers’ Market regular Nikki Lewis, is a self-described "crispy treat dessert café," offering a big selection of artisan Rice Crispies treats and handmade marshmallows. The Mallow Bar will also feature gourmet specialty coffees and other desserts, including pastries, pies and gelato, many from local producers.
Tark’s at the ‘Shoe will be a traditional American bistro, with an emphasis on chicken specialties and local seafood favorites. Tark’s specialty items include jumbo lump crab cakes, fried chicken, fresh-cut French fries and soups made daily.
Lenny’s Deli has been feeding Baltimore-area residents since 1985 in three locations -- at Harborplace, on Lombard Street and in Owings Mills. Lenny’s is known for its corned beef sandwich, pastrami, hot dogs and other deli favorites, as well as all-day breakfast offerings.
Pie-Zetta is a new concept that's being introduced by Mamma Ilardo’s, the Towson-based pizzeria that's the fastest-growing pizza by the slice chain in the U.S. At Pie-Zetta, guests will be able to custom order a personal pizza.
Mamma Ilardo's was recently named one of the "Hot 100 Pizza Companies" in the annual listing by Pizza Today magazine, and it's been selected as one of the top companies in the first annual Bond’s Top 50 Food Service Franchises publication.
