PALMER, Mass. (AP) — Town officials in Palmer are close to finalizing a host community agreement with Mohegan Sun for a $1 billion resort casino in the central Massachusetts town.
The deal is scheduled to be signed on Thursday at the Palmer. The town council is expected to meet the following week to set a date for a referendum on the agreement.
Mohegan Sun will likely be in competition with two other proposals for the sole western Massachusetts casino license.
Springfield voters last month approved a host community agreement with MGM Resorts. Voters in West Springfield are scheduled to weigh in Sept. 10 on a proposal by Hard Rock to develop a casino at the Eastern States Exposition.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will make the final decision on who gets the casino license.
