Visitors to Hollywood Casino in Perryville can now walk through the door with hopes of winning more than a big slots score or lucrative poker jackpot. The casino, owned by Penn National, is offering a series of contests and events in partnership with the Aberdeen IronBirds, a minor league affiliate of the Orioles'.
Starting Monday, casino goers can enter to win merchandise signed by IronBirds owner and Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr. There is, of course, something of a catch: Getting an entry form requires getting a Club Hollywood Card, which enters you in the company's sophisticated tracking and communication program. Most semi-regular gamblers sign up for the program anyway.
On July 12, promotional teams from the casino will be at the IronBirds game giving out merchandise and offering details on other promotions.
Hollywood already gave away five prize packs for the Lardarius Webb celebrity softball game played last weekend.
Contests to win VIP treatment at the ballpark -- which involves taking batting practice on the field -- and casino are also planned.
The casino and Ripken Stadium are separated by 10 miles -- and the Susquehanna River -- on I-95.
