Springfield officials are putting off for two more weeks a decision on whether to negotiate an agreemenet with one or both companies seeking casino developments in the western Massachusetts city.
Mayor Domenic Sarno had set Friday as the date for announcing the next step in its casino review process, but has now delayed that announcement until Feb. 11.
MGM Resorts and Penn National Gaming are both seeking to develop casinos in Springfield.
Sarno could choose to negotiate a host community agreement with one company, or both. Any agreements would then have to go before city voters for approval.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will have the final say on awarding the sole resort casino license for western Massachusetts. Mohegan Sun and Hard Rock International also have proposals for the region.
