Bellator 41 Results And Recap - Sports Betting World

E-mail Print PDF

Bellator 41 took place last night at the Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Ariz. It was a peculiar setting for fights as the cage was outside and the stands were scattered around it, but there were some entertaining bouts. Unfortunately, the night was marred by some bad judging, and I’m happy it wasn’t a title bout or a tournament fight.

In the main event, Joe Warren was awarded a

unanimous decision over Marcos Galvao. To add insult to injury, Judge Chuck Wolf awarded the fight 30-27. After watching the fight 3 times now, its very confusing to me how one could come up with that score. I gave the third round to Joe Warren, and the first round was clearly Galvao’s round. In the second round, besides a combo at the beginning and a takedown at the end, Warren didn’t do much of anything. It was the closest of the rounds, but I can’t see how all three judges would have seen it for Warren. I hope they give Galvao another shot at him sometime in the future.

In the Bantamweight super-fight Zack Makovsky defeated Chad Robichaux via TKO in the third round. Makovsky was controlling on the feet, and even Robichaux threatened him with submissions on the bottom, he was able to thwart the attempts. Makovsky’s takedowns were text book the whole fight, as he made sure to land in side control every time he secured one. Zack was on his way to a 30-27 win over Chad, but he was able to get to mount and start landing on the Brazilian. Chad gave up his back, and Zack flattened him out while landing strikes. Robichaux was just turtling up, and the ref was forced to stop the fight. Officially it goes in the books as TKO to unanswered strikes.

In a featherweight semifinal fight, Wilson Reis was defeated by knockout in the third round by Patricio “Pitbull.” Reis was a game opponent through out the entire fight, but the size of Patricio was apparent and he was using it well. Pitbull was about to keep him on the end of his punches in most of the fight, but it finally caught up with Reis in the third. In an aggressive finish, Reis was hit with heavy shots that seemed to knock him out and wake him up repeatedly, and the Brazilian finally crumbled at 3:29 in the round. Patricio will advance to the final.

Patricio will be meeting Daniel Straus in the final, as he finished Kenny Foster to cinch up his place in the featherweight tournament. It was a smothering performance by Straus, and he was on his way to clean decision. Late in the third round, Foster finally made a mistake that Straus could capitalize on. After landing some shots and getting the fight to the floor, Straus transitioned from a brabo choke into a guillotine choke that finished the fight at 3:48 in the last round.
