Thousands of job-seekers turned out Friday, hoping to land one of the 1,000 jobs a new casino will bring to the area.
Midwest Gaming, the developer of the Rivers Casino being built in Des Plaines, is looking to fill hundreds of permanent positions from management and dealers to restaurant workers.
"Anyone with gaming experience or without. We're looking for all kinds of things," said Merrick Dresnin, the company's human resources director.
Facing a 10 perecent unemployment rate in the Des Plaines area, Mayor Marty Moyland said he sees opportunities in the new venue.
"This will be a good boost in the arm -- a shot in the arm. Not only for our residents but residents in the area," he said.
Friday's fair was held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont at 5555 N. River Road.Â
The event was meant to give job seekers a chance to learn more about the company and the available positions.
The casino didn't accept paper applications or resumes at the fair. Instead, those interested in applying should do so online at the Rivers Casino website.
The casino that's being built off River Road between Touhy and Devon will open this summer.Â
