METROPOLIS, Ill. — The Harrah's casino and hotel in southern Illinois that's been closed for nearly a week because of high levels of the Ohio River is reopening.
The company said the 36,000-square-foot casino in Metropolis was to reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday, six days after it was closed because of safety concerns involving the swollen Ohio River nearby.
In a statement Monday, Harrah's thanked the patience of its employees and guests affected by the closure.
The company said the employees continued to get their full pay and benefits during the closure.
The casino is part of the Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corp., the world's biggest casino operator.
A company spokesman says another casino — the Horseshoe Southern Indiana — also was closed recently because of flooding.
