Louisiana casino revenue drops with new year - Bloomberg

E-mail Print PDF

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's state-licensed casinos won $191.3 million from players in January, a drop from the prior month but a slight boost when compared to the same month a year earlier, according to the latest figures presented Thursday to the Gaming Control Board.

The dip

from December to January was largest in the Shreveport and Bossier City market, which was at least partially attributed to winter weather in the region, according to Louisiana State Police.

For January, the 13 riverboat casinos took in nearly $133 million. Harrah's downtown New Orleans casino won more than $26 million, while the four race track casinos brought in $32 million.

By comparison, the casinos had brought in $204.3 million total in December and $189.7 million in January 2010. The only drop from the January 2011 to January 2010 comparison was in northwest Louisiana's market.

Among the state's casino markets:

—In Shreveport-Bossier City, which caters to players from Texas and Arkansas, five riverboats and the Louisiana Downs track casino took in $56.9 million last month, down from $61.3 million in January 2010.

—Lake Charles, which also is dependent upon Texas players, saw its three riverboats and the Delta Downs track casino win $54.8 million last month, up from $52.4 million a year earlier.

—In the New Orleans area, which has two riverboats, the downtown land casino and the Fair Grounds track casino, players lost $51.2 million last month, an increase from $49.7 million in January 2010.

—The two riverboats in Baton Rouge won $15.9 million last month, up from $14.5 million in January 2010.

—The Evangeline Downs track casino at Opelousas won $7.9 million last month and $7.7 million in January 2010.

—The lone riverboat in the Morgan City area won $4.5 million last month, up from $4.2 million a year earlier.

The figures do not include the three Indian reservation casinos in Louisiana, which are not required to report their winnings to the public.
