U.S. Bankruptcy Court records for the Colorado district show that Carleo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in May of 2009. His case listed debts including mortgages on four properties in Pueblo. He listed assets of about $212,000 and liabilities of about $356,000 in his petition.
He had just $30 in his checking account and listed a Las Vegas address as his home.
The Review Journal reported
that Carleo was charged after he agreed to meet with undercover officers in an attempt to sell part of $1.5 million in chips stolen from the Bellagio casino in December. The thief in that case walked into the casino wearing a motorcycle helmet at 3:50 a.m., pulled a handgun at a craps table and demanded the chips. He was given the chips in denominations ranging from $100 to $25,000.
Carleo was a guest of the hotel at the time.
The Review Journal reported that Carleo had previously worked as a DJ, real estate broker and part-owner of a limo company with his stepfather.
He is the son of a Las Vegas Municipal Court judge.
