The music icon is bringing a Margaritaville Casino to Biloxi. The project was initially planned back in 2007, and was a joint venture between Buffett and Harrah's Entertainment. Caesars Entertainment, as they have come to be know, pulled out of the project when the economy went south.
Now, Buffett is promising not to abandon the Gulf Coast, and has revived the plans for the casino. Instead of the lavish boutiques and dining options that would have been seen under the Harrah's development, Buffett has chosen to go with a more laid back atmosphere.
Buffett has built an entire career around the laid back lifestyle. At his concerts, Buffett can be seen in swimming trunks and barefoot. His audience often follows that lead, with parrot hats being seen throughout the arenas where Buffett plays.
Tom Brosig, a casino veteran, will be heavily involved in the development of the new casino. Biloxi and the Mississippi Gaming Commission must both give their approval before any work can be done on the new casino.
Once the approvals are given, it is expected that the building process will be done in a swift manner. The hope is to have the casino open by the end of the year. The proposal is for a 68,000 square foot facility, with dining options both indoor and outdoor, an events center, and a marina.
