BERLIN, Md.- The Casino at Ocean Downs is scheduled to open to the public at 1 p.m. Tuesday, following a ribbon cutting by state officials and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.
Ocean Downs will be Maryland's second operating slots parlor since a referendum allowing the facilities was approved by voters in 2008.
The racetrack was the first facility
The $45 million gaming facility includes 700 slot machines.
Some Eastern Shore residents hope the casino pays off in jobs.
"It could give people jobs, you know, because there's no jobs around," said Salisbury resident Alexander Moses.
Ocean Downs says it has hired 200 new employees.
But others say it could bring other things.
"It could bring a little bit trouble to Berlin," said Salisbury resident Debra Gramby. "I'm glad it's not Salisbury, but it's not that far away, so who knows."
