The Cordish Cos. has been on a roll when it comes to victories in the state. First, voters gave approval for a casino to be located at the Arundel Mills mall in Anne Arundel County. Then came the approval of the development plans.
A temporary casino will now start being constructed that will hold 2,000 slot machines. That will be phase one of the construction. Phase two will be to complete the rest of the permanent facility. Several different dining options, a venue for musical acts, and the actual permanent casino is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
Maryland had their first casino opened earlier this year, and judging from the early revenue results, casinos will be a big hit with Maryland residents. The Anne Arundel casino is expected to become the biggest casino in the state in terms of revenue. The permanent casino will have 4,750 slot machines.
Maryland regulators have been busy handing out licenses for casinos in recent years. On Thursday, the Casino at Ocean Downs receive3d their gaming license. The casino will be open just ion time for Maryland residents to start the new year on Tuesday. The Ocean Downs casino will have just about an entire year of revenue in 2011.
Maryland has moved quickly as have several other states in the Northeast when it comes to casino gambling. Pennsylvania has made the biggest strides, but New York and Delaware have also expanded their gaming industries. Maine saw their first casino opened late this year, and Massachusetts lawmakers are expected to take up the issue of casino resorts in the new session shortly after the new year.
