The luxurious casino and hotel in Las Vegas is sending the message to the thief, who held up a craps table on Dec. 14 and fled on a motorcycle, that the chips will be worthless if he, or other chip-holders,
The Bellagio robbery saw a man in a jumpsuit and motorcycle helmet steal $1.5 million in chips from the casino, according to a previous report by The Epoch Times citing local Fox television staion. AP reports that many of the chips were worth $25,000.
But the thief will have a hard time cashing the casino-specific chips now as police and officials are monitoring the redemption of high-value chips that range from $100 to $25,000.
"The bottom line is that they're not money," Nevada Gaming Control Board official David Salas told AP.
The number of $25,000 chips that were stolen could number as high as 60, according to a Fox Business report.
Bellagio filed the chip discontinuation notice, which is required by law, the day of the heist, and was also mandated to give legal chip holders a “reasonable amount of time to cash in any chips,” the news agency also said.
