New Yorkers that made plans to travel during the holidays were discouraged this weekend when the weather in New York caused many flights to be canceled. Among those stranded were dozens of gamblers who were set to travel to Las Vegas to celebrate the New Year's holiday.
"I was supposed to leave for Las Vegas on Friday and spend two weeks there,"
Las Vegas has become a popular destination for New Year's and this year will be no different. The Cosmopolitan, the newest casino resort in Las Vegas, is bringing on one of the biggest celebrities in the country to perform on New year's Eve. The Cosmopolitan has shelled out $1 million for the services of Jay-Z.
The hip-hop legend will be one of many celebrities that will entertain travelers in Sin City over the next week. Las Vegas has always been one of the hottest places to celebrate the New year, and even though revenue has been declining, New year's is still expected to be profitable for Las Vegas casinos.
New Yorkers are not the only travelers that have been stranded due to the bad weather in the Northeast. Boston has blizzard warnings as well, and as of Saturday evening, Delta had already canceled hundreds of flights due to the weather. More cancellations are expected throughout Sunday and possibly into next week.
If the weather persists, Las Vegas and other gaming destinations may be hurt by the flight cancellations. Many travelers have a set amount of time off from their jobs, and if their flights are cancelled, they may choose to re-schedule their gambling trips for another time.
