Poll Shows Support For Maine Casino
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) ― A new poll says a majority of Mainers are supportive of an upcoming statewide referendum proposing a casino in Oxford County.In a telephone survey conducted for MaineToday Media, 52 percent of respondents said they would definitely or probably vote in favor of Question 1 on the Nov. 2 ballot seeking approval for a casino with slot machines and table games. Thirty-nine percent said they would definitely or probably vote "no."
Black Bear Entertainment LLC is proposing a $165 million casino and resort in the town of Oxford.
The poll of 405 registered likely voters was conducted Monday by the Portland-based research firm Critical Insights. It has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.
MaineToday Media publishes the Portland Press Herald, the Kennebec Journal and the Morning Sentinel newspapers.
