The Michigan attorney general's office sent its letter demanding the casino close on Thursday. A spokeswoman on Friday would not comment on the timeline for when attorney general officails might try to force the casino's closing.
The casino with roughly 40 slot machines opened in November. Bay Mills owns the property but it isn't on their main reservation.
State officials said they are not persuaded the casino is on "Indian lands" as required for lawful gambling.
