Oregon Residents Preparing To Vote On New Casino In November - Casino Gambling Web

Oregon residents have been able to sit back in recent years and watch how residents of other states had to vote on casino

gambling. Now, it will be their turn to make a decision on whether or not the state should move into the casino industry.

A measure is on the ballot for November that is asking voters whether or not they want the first private casino in the state. It is a question that many voters have been gathering information about in order to make an educated decision.

The pros and cons of bringing a casino to the Portland area are being discussed by those in favor of the expanded gambling and also those opposed. The debates taking place are similar to the debates that take place anytime gambling expansion is proposed in the US.

On one hand, the opposition to casinos claims that casinos will bring more social ills. The potential for gambling addiction will rise, and the crime that is often associated with the surrounding area of a casino could be detrimental. All of these are points that have been used for decades.

Proponents of the casino will offer up the idea of millions of dollars going towards the government and the Oregon school system. The casino would also bring thousands of jobs at a time when unemployment continues to grow. The economic recession started the casino revolution in the US, but it has continued even after the recession is considered over.

Oregon already has a state lottery and opponents of the casino in the Oregon government believe that the lottery revenue would suffer if the casino is added. That theory has not been proven to be true in other states around the US. The economic boost to the state would be great, says the casino backers.

This debate will go on from now until November, and only the voters will be able to determine which side wins and which side loses. It is a choice that many Americans are making these days, and one that will have long term implications in Oregon, regardless of the outcome next month.
