Two Bikers Hurt In Broward Toy Run Crash
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A pair of motorcyclists taking part in the annual Christmas Toys in the Sun Run was taken to the hospital after several bikes collided in Pompano Beach.
Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach; two riders suffered serious injuries.
Approximately 30 thousand bikers are taking part in the run which starts at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and heads south to Markham Park in Sunrise.
I-95 southbound from Sample Road in Deerfield Beach to westboudI-595 to the SW 136 Avenue exit in Davie is closed to traffic until about 1:30 p.m.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said spectators are permitted to park their vehicles on any highway (including State Road 84) or stand on the highway. BSO deputies and FHP troopers will be strictly enforcing this due to the ongoing I-595 construction project in the interest of public safety.
Proceeds from the event go to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood and donated toys are distributed to needy children in South Florida.
