New Jersey casino regulators are expected to approve the sale of Resorts Atlantic City, the nation's first casino to open
The state Casino Control Commission is voting Wednesday whether to grant veteran casino executive Dennis Gomes and New York real estate developer Morris Bailey the interim authority to buy the casino.
Resorts, which opened in 1978, had been in danger of closing in recent months when its cash flow ran perilously low.
Since last December, it has been owned by a consortium of lenders who took control when the casino stopped paying its mortgage.
Gomes plans to re-brand the casino in a "Boardwalk Empire" theme from the hit HBO series about Prohibition-era Atlantic City.
The sale is expected to close on Monday.
