Two people have been charged in a high-speed chase into Leake County that inured two Sheriff’s deputies last month, the authorities said.

Angela Whitehead, 30, of 4160 New Hope Road, Lexington, was arrested and charged with felony pursuit, DUI, two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer, reckless driving, failure to yield to blue lights, improper passing and possession of marijuana in a a vehicle, officials said.

Vincent Dion Howard, 35, of 222 Fair Road, Weir, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, officials said.

The chase started at one of the casinos and ended in Carthage in late February.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said that Whitehead said she ran because she faces about eight years to serve on a number of offenses committed in Holmes County including a burglary and shooting into a dwelling.

Clark said that Howard was also on parole for drug charges although he was unsure where they originated.

Clark said the two were first encountered by security in the parking garage at the Silver Star after midnight on Feb. 21. They then fled the garage with “security in tow and Choctaw PD en route.”

Clark said that, meanwhile, deputies were setting up a road block on Highway 16 west when they saw a vehicle coming over a hill and gaining speed.

Clark said that the vehicle was going an excess of 100 miles an hour and that the deputies had to dive out of the way when it passed. Clark said one of the deputies sustained minor injuries but was able to pursue the vehicle.

Clark said that the deputies terminated their pursuit just as it was about to enter Carthage and Carthage Police were notified. He said CPD pulled the two over shortly after they entered the city limits and handed them over to the custody of the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office.

Whitehead was identified as the driver.
