Paterson Works For Approval Of Upstate Casino Project - NY1

Governor David Paterson is working to get approval for construction of an Indian-owned casino in the Catskills.

The proposed building in Sullivan County would be part of a land claim settlement with the Stockbridge-Munsee band of Mohicans.

A casino would bring

much-needed jobs to the area and hundreds of millions of dollars a year to the state.

Other Indian nations have protested a potential project, saying the profits will be sent back to Wisconsin, and question the Stockbridge land claim.

Other federal and legal obstacles have kept the sides from reaching a deal to build in the once thriving area.
