San Manuel Casino near Highland announced Monday, March 23, that it was extending its closure into mid-April to protect the health and safety of the community amid concerns over the novel coronavirus.

In a statement sent via email, the casino announced that it will remain closed through Saturday, April 11. It had previously announced that it would stay closed through the end of the month.

The statement noted that the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will continue to pay team members their pay and benefits during the extended closure time.

The announcement by San Manuel follows an announcement by Pechanga Resort Casino near Temecula over the weekend that it expects its closure to now last beyond the end of the month and that a temporary layoff of team members is expected.

Other casinos in the region have not yet said whether they expect their closures to last longer. Many of the casinos that announced plans to close indicated that those closures would last through the end of the month or early April.
