U.P. casino announces $30M expansion

HARRIS, MI — A casino in the Upper Peninsula announced it has been approved for a $30 million expansion that will include more than 100 hotel rooms, a new dining venue, and new water park features.

TV-6 FOX UP reports that the Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Council has approved a $30 million expansion of the Island Resort & Casino.

More than 100 new hotel rooms will be added and connected to the south end of the current 11-story Palm Tower, with three guest elevators and a lobby. The expansion also includes a high-end dining venue, convention space and a pool with water park features for kids and young adults under 18.

The casino made the announcement via Facebook on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

“Engineering, design and bidding will be ongoing through spring of this year," the post states. “Construction is scheduled to begin in June with expected completion during the 2021 calendar year.”
