When I attended Hong Kong-based pop star George Lam’s concert at Pechanga Resort Casino on a recent Saturday, I only knew a handful of songs he performed ( “Rock Around the Clock” among them) and while I didn’t know what he was joking about that caused the audience at Pechanga Summit to erupt in laughter, it was a fun experience.

I watched the audience of thousands of people enjoying themselves immensely. People ran to the stage to see Lam when he first came out, they crowded around him to snap pictures when he walked around the venue floor and they went crazy when they heard a song they recognized. Lam’s show is just one of many foreign language shows that Southern California’s casinos put on. We explore why in this week’s story. Read more.

Beyond Southern California… 

Millions of grasshoppers invading Las Vegas sounds like the plot for a scary B-movie from the ’50s, but it’s actually a real life scenario in Sin City right now. Hoards of the winged insects are traveling across the city — including the very busy Las Vegas strip —  and may stay there for several weeks. Luckily, they don’t bite and they don’t carry diseases, according to experts.
