ATLANTIC CITY — New Jersey Democrats are working on legislation that would give the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority broad powers to create and run an Atlantic City tourism district.

Under the bill, the CRDA also would be responsible for marketing the casino resort.
The proposal differs from a plan proposed by Republican Gov. Chris Christie. He wants to create a new state authority to market the resort in partnership with the casino companies.
The Democrats' bill also calls for a renewed purse subsidy for the state's horse racing industry. Christie wants to eliminate the subsidy.
