Should Chicago’s Casino Come To Your Neighborhood? City Asks Residents To Weigh In – Block Club Chicago

CHICAGO — The city’s first casino is coming — and Mayor Lori Lightfoot wants to know where she should put it.

The city released an online survey Friday so it could get more input from everyday Chicagoans about where the casino should go and what they hope to get out of it. The survey comes several weeks after Lightfoot’s team released a list of suggested sites for the casino only to have local aldermen balk at the proposed locations.

The survey will be available through the fall, and Chicagoans will be able to continue using it to share their thoughts even after the results are released, according to a Mayor’s Office news release. The city will also host community forums so residents can talk about the location and operation of the casino.

The survey asks Chicagoans where they’d like the casino to go — giving geographic-specific options like “near Downtown” and vaguer ones like “near other entertainment venues” — and asks respondents to share their concerns about the casino or if they’d be interested in working at one.

The survey also asks what complementary amenities respondents would like to see built with a casino, suggesting a golf course, amusement park, shopping or hotel, among other things.

Respondents are also able to share additional comments about the casino.
