Pump the brakes on late night casino cocktails

When the Encore Boston Harbor casino opens next month, bottles of booze should not be opened past 2 a.m. —  at least for the shakedown period.

The Gaming Commission is considering an application by Wynn Resorts, which owns the Encore, to serve drinks to active gamblers on its gaming floor until 4 a.m.

There are many public safety concerns to address, as well as fairness questions and other municipal considerations, before we create a drinking oasis in Everett.

Casinos generally run on their own time as they are insulated from the outside world, by design, and that is their appeal but we cannot immediately reproduce Las Vegas on the banks of the Mystic River.

At least not yet. Let’s get the Encore Boston Harbor underway and revisit this down the road.
