The Tunica Roadhouse Casino in Mississippi is closing, operator Caesars Entertainment Corp. announced.

The casino will close by the end of January, leaving about 150 people out of work, The Commercial Appeal reported. The adjacent 135-room hotel will remain open. Las Vegas-based Caesars will continue to operate the Horseshoe Tunica casino in the same market.

Regional president Scott Barber said the closure was an effort “to appropriately position our business for the current market opportunity and ensure the long-term viability of our remaining operations in the vicinity.”

With 31,000 square-feet of gaming space, 689 slot machines and a handful of gaming tables, Roadhouse is one of Tunica’s smallest casinos. The Horseshoe boasts 63,000 square feet of gaming space and more than 1,000 slot machines with additional gaming tables, according to data from the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Six other casinos also operate in Tunica.

The closure comes as gaming revenue in counties along the Mississippi River continue to decline, the Commercial Appeal reported. Gambling generated some $1.66 billion in revenue for the counties in 2006; by 2017, the figure dropped to $885 million.

The Roadhouse closure is the second by Caesar’s in Tunica. The company closed Harrah’s Tunica Hotel and Casino in 2014.
