FBI investigating Emerald Queen Casino parking lot shooting

The FBI is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place early Tuesday in the parking lot of an Emerald Queen casino in Tacoma.

A Puyallup tribal police officer fatally shot someone, according to tribal spokeswoman Sue Evans.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the shooting victim as Donald A. Judd, 45, of Puyallup.

Officials cordoned off most of the parking lot in the 2000 block of East 29th Street after the 1 a.m. incident. A crashed pickup truck with its doors opened could be seen on the property.

“The FBI is on scene to investigate an incident on tribal land that involved police response early this morning,” agency spokeswoman Ayn Dietrick said.

The officer, who was not identified, was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a police shooting.

Evans and the FBI declined to provide information about what led up to the shooting.
