With Mass. elections over, casino question lingers - BusinessWeek

One big question left unanswered in Tuesday's election is the future of casinos in Massachusetts.

In re-electing Gov. Deval Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray, voters did little to shift the balance of power that led

to this summer's gambling stalemate.

Patrick is showing little signs of backing down.

He told reporters this week that he made his position clear during the bruising and ultimately futile effort to find common ground on a bill legalizing casinos.

He said if lawmakers want to they can come back before the session ends in January and approve his version of the bill, which would license three casinos.

House lawmakers, led by DeLeo, also want slot machines at two of the state's existing racetracks.
