New Mexico State Police say a Santa Fe County man was arrested Friday in connection with a shooting earlier this week at The Downs Racetrack & Casino in Albuquerque that left a 41-year-old man critically injured.

In a news release, state police said 26-year-old Edwardo Casillas of Edgewood was arrested by Albuquerque police at a motel in the city and is being held on suspicion of attempted murder, tampering with evidence and shooting from a motor vehicle in the Wednesday incident.

Police believe Casillas shot the man in the casino parking lot and then fled in a white Toyota.

The victim was taken to an Albuquerque hospital for treatment of the life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

According to the statement, Casillas admitted to state police agents that he shot the victim.
